Kathryn & Doss Owen Lynn, M.D.

Years of service as a consulting physician to the White House was not the last contribution Dr. Doss Owen Lynn made to his country or to the medical profession. Through the generosity and careful preparation of an estate plan, Dr. Lynn and his wife, Kathryn, are influencing generations of future physicians at the OU College of Medicine.

The Lynns devoted their lives to medicine. After graduating from OU in 1937 with his medical degree, Dr. Lynn embarked upon a military and medical career that took him and his wife all over the world. During the 1950s, Dr. Lynn served as chief of medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and cardiovascular medicine consultant to former President Dwight D. Eisenhower. In 1996, the Lynns established the Kathryn G. and Doss Owen Lynn, M.D., Chair in Neurology at OU.

Before their deaths in 2004 and 2007 respectively, Dr. and Mrs. Lynn chose to establish a trust that would, in part, benefit OU's College of Medicine. This trust has greatly enhanced the Lynn Chair, a post held by nationally recognized physician and stroke researcher David Lee Gordon, M.D. Gordon said the Lynn endowment has provided him the necessary time to focus his energy and attention on developing OU's neurology department.
